General Motors Sack GM Marketing - Back of Manchester United deal

Joel Ewanick, the high-profile marketing chief brought in to change the image of General Motors Co. has been shown the door. The decision came about after some company officials questioned the propriety of the deal that was negotiated by Mr Ewanick to sponsor Manchester United’s team Jersey. The deal is said to be worth more than 25 million pounds ($39 million) for 7 years per year.

The asking of the resignation came about after Ewanick failed to provide clarifications on the deal to the senior team. The company has amassed losses in last decade or so and this is bound to put more pressure on CEO Dan Akerson.

Of course you have to question the deal which has come about when Manchester united is looking for money from any source to compete on a footballing level. They were even going to float their shares on stock exchanges before withholding. It comes as no surprise then that the deal is being looked at with skepticism and has come under the scanner.

Manchester United and General Motors are world wide brands and seeing them coming under scrutiny is not easy. Hopefully is all is clean and both the giants can get back to doing what they do best.

Fingers Crossed.
