India won the inaugural edition of the T20 world cup held in South
Africa and deservedly so in 2007 but since then the results for team India in
T20 world cups has been nothing short of dismal. Here I explore some of the
reasons as to why that may be the case. The prime culprit for that will be the
Indian Premier league (IPL) which has been an annual occurrence since 2008 (after
the first edition of T20 world cup). So here are some of the reasons.
- No time outs – all the Indian players are used to playing with time outs and the international events don’t allow that luxury, safe to say that Indian players are finding it hard to cope up with the fastest form of the game. One needs the rest and the time to strategize. ICC president Sharad Pawar take note.
- No foreign players – Indian players are used to find inspiration from the foreign players that they have been playing with in IPL. Without them the team looks very poor and shadow of a team that it is with them. Time to allow some Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Indian team may be
- No answerability – the owners sitting in the dugouts put a pressure on the players, which is probably more than what a nation of more than a billion people brings. May be we should have N Srinivasan sitting in the dugout to cheer Indian team on.
- Not enough money – the money that BCCI has been offering is not good enough, the IPL has more money, more of the X factor. International cricket is too much of a hard work and it’s just cricket, its blaze for players representing India, to be successful they need more money. Get negotiating.
- No cheerleaders – the world cup has no cheerleaders, where is the extra motivation. For whom do we hit those fours and sixes or take those catches or wickets. They are the ones who cheer us on. Their absence is really disheartening. Cheerleaders at the next edition of T20 world cup in Bangladesh 2014 please.
Food for thought.
good one :)
