Satire – Things Commentators say

When you are watching sports on television whether at home or anywhere else what makes the experience all the more richer is good commentary. Of course some do it better than others but there are occasions even the good ones say things that make me wonder, what? Here are a few examples.

We have seen them given – whether it’s Leg before Wicket (LBW) or a penalty decision we are talking about sometimes commentators say we have seen them given. Well what does that mean, was it or was it not? It would help if you can give an example so can you please not sit on the fence.

This man has talent – of course he has got talent, otherwise how would he have gotten at this level and if they were looking for untalented people they could have done a lot worse than me.

He could have done better – if you drop a sitter or miss the target from a yard or two, one of course could have done better and if he couldn't have, well he should not be in the team.

What a ________ - they may be talking about a catch, a ball bowled or a shot, it makes me think whether they are asking a question or praising what transpired. Surely, they can use other adjectives available at their disposable.

He has seen better days – obviously, I mean if one gets for a duck or gets spanked while bowling or both in cricket. In football if some gets sent off or misses a load of chance, gives penalties or scores own goals then obviously that’s not his best day and if it is I hope he is not my team.

I am sure reading this from now on they will be a little more transparent and empathetic towards their audiences. At least I hope they do.
