Tough Time ahead for team India at T20 World cup

In the initial phases of the previous T20 world cups India has been unbeaten, however in the last two editions of the event India has not won any of their matches in the super eights, losing all six of their matches.

If Team India harbors any hopes of regaining the title that they won in 2007, then that is one fact that they have to correct. From what I have learnt the problem in the last two editions has been the ability to cope with the short pitch bowling. The batsmen have just not been able to runs on the board that can be defended by the bowlers. On the occasions that they have the bowlers have let the team down. The team has not been gelling as a unit in the previous editions. This is hard to understand as they have remained unbeaten in the first round, where admittedly the opposition was weaker but performances really dipped.

In the current edition the pitches have been sporty but the bounce has not troubled the Indian team as it did on the previous occasions. That is one big problem out of the way. What isn’t out of the way is the fact that India has been placed in group 2 of the super eights and that includes South Africa, Australia and Pakistan. That is the tougher of the two groups by a long way and India will have to play out of their skins to get to the Knockout stages. All the facets of the game especially fielding must be zenith even to compete let alone win. The team selection too must be spot on and the team can’t afford to carry any passengers.

To be honest I cannot see India getting past the super eight stages this time round too. The gap between India and Australia and South Africa is just too stark. Yes, it was a warm up match but we saw what Pakistan can do. India will need to rely on a lot of luck to make out of this group.

The only thing that might help the team is the fact that the pitches may start turning and may even the playing field.  Even then I feel it would still be a 50-50 game.

I may have given an impression that I don’t like the Indian team or something to that effect but believe me that is not the case, far from it. I am just saying what I think will happen.

I would be happy to be proven wrong and see team India go all the way in the tournament but I certainly wouldn’t bet on it. Even if I were a betting man.

  1. The assessment is somewhat correct..I guess MSD is running short of ideas and relying too much on his set formula of spin.Anyways he never had the confidence in his seamers, but persisting with Ashwin in the powerplay and not giving the new ball to Irfan who got you 2 wickets with the swinging ball against England was baffling decision..
Also, as a blogger, you don't need to justify your thoughts.. just present it.. the last few lines sound very defensive..
